Replacing a camshaft, how to do it
Replacing a camshaft is a complex job best done by an experienced mechanic. Still want to do this yourself? Then you can follow the following steps:
- Remove the necessary parts to access the valve cover.
- Remove the valve cover.
- Turn the camshaft to the top dead centre (TDC) position, with the flywheel at zero degrees.
- Remove the rocker shaft.
- Remove and camshaft sprocket and deinstall the camshaft
- Check the camshaft bearings, If they are good, lubricate them with oil and fit the new camshaft and sprocket.
- Check the tooth flank clearance.
- Replace the rocker shaft and adjust the valves and injectors properly.
- Replace the valve cover and all other parts you took off.
- Check the oil and coolant levels.
- Start the engine and listen for any unusual noises or vibrations.
It is important to follow the manufacturer's specific instructions and tolerances during this process, as this may differ depending on the engine type and model.
